After more than two years of planning and consultation, South Africa's Renewable Energy Feed In Tariff (REFIT) Programme is expected to launch imminently with the publication of a Request for Proposals (RFP) in respect of 1,025 MW of renewable energy generation. This follows a Cabinet Statement issued on 17 March that the Department of Energy's eagerly awaited Integrated Resources Plan (IRP), which will set the generation targets for different technologies for the next 20 years, has now been finalised. The final version of this document, referred to as IRP 2010, is expected to be published around 1 april 2011.
